May 11, 2009

A public meeting was called to discuss the feasibility of building a lawnbowling facility in the Town or County. About 30 people attended and jointly expressed a desire to pursue the idea.

February 2010

The first organized committee meeting of twelve people was held and included local residents, representatives of the Town and of the County. The Chairman was Brian Kinsman, Town of Truro Councillor.

December 13, 2010

Ted Lohnes was chosen as the new Chairman of the Lawn Bowling Steering Committee.

February 8, 2011

Cobequid Lawn Bowls Club received its official incorporation under the Societies Act.

June 2011

Cobequid Lawn Bowls Club had 45 Charter Members.

June 28, 2011

Cobequid Lawn Bowls Club held its Founding Meeting. Officers elected were: Ted Lohnes, President; Bill Wesley, 1st Vice President; Sharron Byers, 2nd Vice President; Cheryl Stilwell, Secretary; and Phillip Higgins, Treasurer.

November 22, 2011

The first Annual General Meeting of the membership took place.

November 2011- April 2012

Throughout the winter, for the second successive year, Club members bowled twice a week at the Nova Scotia Provincial Exhibition Agridome in Bible Hill.

March 2012

TurfMasters Landscaping, Musquodoboit, was awarded the tender for construction of our new Club at Douglas Street.

Bill Dickson, CLBC Executive and Charter Member, presented a Special Poem he wrote as a tribute to the Club.

April 13, 2012

The official sod-turning ceremony was held at Douglas Street and construction work began.

April 24, 2012

The Spring General Meeting was attended by 42 of our 87 Charter Members.

May 30, 2012

Cobequid Lawn Bowls Club Website went LIVE.

June 4, 2012

Cobequid Lawn Bowls Club opens and we play our first game.

June 6, 2012

Our first Open House. Despite a damp and cool evening, 32 people attended and 20 of these were newcomers. Everyone played a few ends and had a grand time.

June 16, 2012

Our Official Grand Opening. With over 120 in attendance on a warm and sunny afternoon, we enjoyed a wonderful celebration with a ribbon cutting, delivery of first bowls, cake cutting, demonstration game and refreshments.

August 18, 2012

On a beautiful warm and sunny day, we hosted our inaugural Invitational Mixed Triples Tournament for 24 teams from Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. Click here for a re-cap of the event, including pictures of the winning and runner-up teams (the runner-up team was from our Club).

November 16, 2012

Our very first Closing Banquet and Awards evening was attended by 54 members and guests. All enjoyed a delicious pot luck meal followed by award presentations, lucky draws and a 50/50 reverse draw. Afterwards, some members stayed to throw a few bowls under our newly installed outdoor lights.
